The Newest In Bathroom Tissue Couture

Bathroom tissue I thought could be used only in the loo. But it as turns out, I was wrong, very, very wrong.

8 leading Canadian designers revealed a unique vision of a future without breast cancer, at the Fifth Annual White Cashmere Collection 2008: A Touch of Pink fashion show in Toronto, on September 19.

How does Bathroom Tissue fit into all this? You might be wondering.

Well, the answer is that this original and breathtaking expression of fashion with compassion, was a show of BT Couture. BT? That stands for Bathroom Tissue. All the creations were entirely crafted from 100 per cent pure, soft and luxurious sheets of pure White Cashmere, Canada's best-selling bathroom tissue. This year's collection also saw dresses with a touch of the new, limited-edition Pink Cashmere, Canada's first coloured bathroom tissue in a decade.

"The White Cashmere Collection 2008 is a luxurious celebration of Canadian fashion and a perfect complement to Cashmere Bathroom Tissue, an everyday luxury", says Nancy Marcus, Corporate Vice President, Consumer Marketing at Kruger Products, maker of Cashmere. "The introduction of Pink Cashmere represents Kruger Products' commitment to a cause that's important to our consumers and our company," she says.

Curated by Susan Langdon, Executive Director of the Toronto Fashion Incubator, the world's first and only designer BT Couture collection stars eight Canadian fashion luminaries including: Arthur Mendonça, David Dixon, Joeffer Caoc, Evan Biddell, winner of Project Runway Canada, Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish for Comrags, Lucian Matis, Thien Le and Ula Zukowska.

I loved all the designs, but a few that really caught my fancy were:

Thien Le: ‘A couturier with a penchant for red carpet glamour, Thien Le loads his White Cashmere Collection 2008 dress with camera-ready effects.' A strapless bodice made of soft, irregular, leather-look, folds studded with sparkling sequins and 3-D flowers, teamed with a full skirt with ropes of frothy pink ruffles and bunch of pink "blossoms" tucked into swathes of layered, pure white "fabric." Magic? I should think so.

Joeffer Caoc: The essence of simplicity, Joeffer Caoc's gown for the White Cashmere Collection 2008 was aptly titled, ‘A Touch of Pink.' A long floaty column worthy of a goddess encompasses a surprise, pink streamers flowing from the shoulder in back.

Lucian Matis: ‘Delicate Fortuny-like vertical pleating, undulating waves of stiffened pink panels, perky pink-edged ruffles. These are just some of the techniques that Lucian Matis mastered to create his exuberant White Cashmere Collection 2008 evening gown-inspired by the brio and allure of a Spanish dancer.' Stylish and alluring.

The White Cashmere Collection 2008: A Touch of Pink will go on public display in The Bay's Toronto flagship store windows at Yonge and Richmond Street, for three weeks, starting October 3, as part of the national retailer's October Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.
