While fans of the book and movie series were intent on the closure of the movie trilogy starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne for The Bourne Conspiracy, the creative minds at developer High Moon Studios were hard at work on the new video game. The Bourne Conspiracy video game was released on June 3rd, 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.
Although the game does not use the likeness of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, the player does takes control of an elite government agent and faces complex challenges, including intense hand-to-hand combat, shooting scenes, and even a driving sequence like in the recent movie.
As soon as you sit down to the play the game, you'll recognize that the video game follows very closely in visual style to the films. Hand-to-hand combat is intense, fast paced and deadly, as many have witnessed in the films. Although the game doesn't exactly follow the story in the film, some of the scenes the player experiences are straight out of the film. For example, the embassy escape sequence from the film is in the game in its entirety, and players are allowed to control Bourne as he escapes from dozens of Marines stationed in an American Embassy in Zurich.
Most of the action in the game takes place during flashbacks, in which Jason Bourne is discovering his identity after his failed assassination attempt on Wombosi. The player controls Bourne through the events leading up to the failed assassination on Wombosi's yacht, and then continues to experience various other assassination missions in the form of flashbacks after that event. Much of the story from the film you will experience in stunning realism during cinematic cut scenes. The portions of the movie that were put into the game are done extremely well, making it seem as though you are actually watching the movie.
While the game itself is fun, I would mostly recommend it to those who are fans of the movies. The visual style appeals to the fans of the films, and the fighting mechanics are simple, making the combat fairly easy and fun. The gunfights throughout the game get repetitive, boring, and unrealistic to those familiar with the films, so many gamers will find themselves bored with the game unless they have a particular reason to continue. The best reason for anybody to pick up and play this game completely through, however, is to get the full experience of Jason Bourne's world, and the background story of who and what Jason Bourne really is.
