Nightmare Playgrounds Equal Family Fun?

There is no question that kids love playgrounds – but unfortunately some adults have lost sight of what truly has “kid appeal”, as these terrifying playgrounds around the world prove!

Most children’s playgrounds include a swing set and a colorful plastic slide or two. Everything is warm and inviting, perfectly suited for the child or those who remain children at heart. But in places such as Europe and Asia, some playgrounds have gone horribly awry, as sadistic play equipment architects have wreaked havoc with their concepts and final results.

Check out, for example, this alligator covered in dozens of knives. Children may be scared of ferocious animals, but nothing is compared to seeing an animal with multiple stab wounds chilling out on your playground equipment!

Then there is the other end of the gross out spectrum, featuring an elephant that “poops” out children with its not so innovative slide design. Do kids really realize they are playing the role of elephant snack and feces by climbing inside? Adults may get a chuckle and a photo op from this European playground “classic”, but really, the whole thing is quite odd.

Lastly, there are the giant insects chilling out in the sand pit. They serve no purpose beyond “décor”, and their beady eyes and tentacles are sure to encourage your little one to spend more time playing (insert sarcasm here).

Fortunately, other press coverage has shown that these playground attractions tend to spook the post-puberty crowd more than the children who hang around it on a regular basis. But still….what were the Europeans thinking?

Oh my

I like the bugs - at least they're not impaled on something!

Tells the older population to stop playing at playgrounds?

Alligator

The Alligator wasn't included in a playground, but rather was an exhibit on the roof of the MOMA in NY last summer. A statement about recycling maybe? Don't remember the details, but wanted to give you a heads up.

But I totally agree with you - people don't take enough time when planning out kids' toys or playgrounds...
