Hurricane Ike came and went and in between left a lot of people, among other things, without electricity for days (some people weeks). If you have ever had to live without electricity you know it isn't impossible to do, but it is a hassle and it does take a lot of rethinking on how to stay cool and keep fresh food. Those who could afford it had the option of using gasoline-powered generators and the very lucky had the opportunity to use the Solar Stik.

Sharp has recently introduced their second concept solar powered television at CEATEC this year. The first one, a 26-inch solar powered television, was introduced back in July and designed for people living in areas without utility-supplied electricity. Their latest version, much too big for my needs, is a 52-inch LCD solar powered television.

After more than 30 years of civil war, ending in 1998, the Cambodian government has collected and destroyed more than 160,000 weapons across the country. In the name of peace some of those weapons were donated to the PAPC. The PAPC (Peace Art Project Cambodia) is a project that was created in November of 2003 by British artist Sasha Constable, small weapons specialist with the European Union.

The reaction to them was positive so Ross Lovegrove is taking it to the next step. He is now working on improving his design with his next generation of solar trees called "Adaptive Solar Tree".
