Zero Pollution Motors Bringing Air-Power to US

Last year a company called Tata motors began producing the Air-Car in India. Recently, news broke that the 1000 mile-per-fill hauler will also be making an appearance in the States.

Zero Pollution Motors (ZPM) confirmed that they have gotten the green light to build the first of a handful of production facilities. The plants will be modular and when operating at full capacity, they are expected to produce 10,000 cars per year.

Using the MDI CityCAT as inspiration, they plan to build the first Air Propelled Vehicle to touch US pavement. Their concept is a 75hp (equivalent) 6-seater with a fuel range of roughly 1000 miles per fill and a top speed of 96mph. It will utilize the original compressors for power up to 35 mph, at which point another energy source would become active and heat the air. The increased volume will add range and power.

"I want to stress that these are estimates, and that we'll know soon more precisely from our engineers," said ZPM spokesman Kevin Haydon, "but a vehicle with one tank of air and, say, 8 gallons of either conventional petrol, ethanol or biofuel could hit between 800 and 1000 miles."

The estimated release date is mid to late 2009 to early 2010 and the price is expected to be around $17,800.

Great News!

I am excited, I'm going to start saving right now!

Production has NOT yet started

Contrary to the first line this article, as of November 2008 TATA Motors has not yet gone into production, in spite of the overly optimistic announcements by MDI.

http://www.cartradeindia.com/car-bike-news/tata-compressed-air-car-to-ta... is an August 28, 2008 article in a trade journal that track India's automotive business. Apparently, Tata considers the MDI air car to still be in its "nascent stage" and there won't be any production in the near future.

"It was being speculated for a long time that Tata Motors would launch its compressed air car by the end of this year. The company ended all such speculations on Tuesday stating that the compressed air car engine technology is still in its nascent stage and a "launch in near future is ruled out".

“The technology for an automobile engine that runs on compressed air is still in the development stage and launch of cars fitted with such engines from the Tata Motors stable in the near future is ruled out,” Rajiv Dube, President, Passenger Cars."
