Quite simply, this is a unique melon that tastes like a lemon. Tesco stores in Great Britain will soon be featuring them for sale for £1.99 (almost $4 US dollars) a piece. According to Tesco:

“The melon is grown in Spain and is the product of twelve years of trials. The fruit resembles a honeydew melon but has the zesty flavor of a lemon.”

What makes the Zesty Melon different from other melons?Melon Slices

The Zesty Melon contains 700/800 milligrams of citric acid per 100 grams, which is almost twice that of a standard melon. The Zesty Melon also has a pH level (the measure of acidity) of 4.5 as compared with 6.5 of a standard melon.

According to Tesco melon buyer, Paul Cunningham:

"Melons were for a long time considered a really exotic treat, but the arrival here in recent years of weird and wonderful produce such as dragon fruit, lychees and papaya has made them mainstream to many people… The lemon melon causes a great reaction when people first try them because the last thing you expect from a smooth-textured melon is a tangy aftertaste."

Can you imagine the texture of foods made with this new melon instead of lemons? Besides, you could probably get a lot more juice out of these things which would save you money.

That ZM is going to be quite healthy food. I don't know how it takes place in Spain, but there are a lot of people in many other countries, who are suffering from lack of citric acid. Unfortunately, melons don't give a crop all the year round, as I know. It would be great to elongate their shelf life.
