Street artist Slinkachu has an ongoing art project titled “Little People”, in which he places miniature people sculptures around the streets.

The artist is a former design student and has created numerous scenes around the streets of London. The project is titled “Little People – a tiny street art project”.

The artist first started this project as a way to amuse his friends and others soon became interested in it. As for where he came up with this idea, he told Fused Magazine: “I was thinking about how little we look around ourselves in day-to-day life. I grew up in the country and loved playing outside when I was a kid, digging things up and finding bugs. There isn’t much chance to do that in the city. And as an adult you lose that sense of wonder about what is around you. I wanted to introduce a bit of mystery and encourage people to look around themselves a bit more. And of course the notion of being small in a big city is quite emotive - everyone who lives in the city feels lost and lonely from time to time.”

Most of the figures come from a company called Preiser and the artist paints them or remodels them in order to fit with the scene to place them in. Slinkachu also carries a notebook around with him wherever he goes, so that when an idea pops into his head for his little people, he can quickly write it down without forgetting it. Sometimes he even carries his little people around with him so that he can find just the right location for them.

Vandalised Cash Machine

He doesn’t often check on his little people once he has placed them because he has found that they are usually long gone. As for the Vandalised Cash Machine installation, it first started with a little man. The artist then checked on it after a year and saw that the little man was gone but the cash machine was there, so he decided to put a little woman at the location.

Slinkachu has also started another project titled “Inner City Snail – a slow moving street art project” in which he uses a snail as a medium for his art.

I'd have to say that my favorite is definitely "Life As We Know It" with the McDonald's cardboard boxes in it. Which one do you like the best?
