Researchers at the University of Haifa, in Israel, have found a way to slow the progression of prostate cancer by using molecules derived from the Ganoderma lucidum fungus.
The Lingzhi Mushroom (from WikiMedia)
The Lingzhi mushroom, or Ganoderma lucidum, has long been a staple in traditional Chinese medicine. Recent research in the West has shown that Lingzhi has numerous curative capabilities, but the research done by Dr. Ben Zion-Zaidman in Haifa is the first to determine one of the reasons for the curative abilities of Ganoderma lucidum. According to Dr. Zion-Zaidman's research, the primary reason Lingzhi mushrooms are effective in treating prostate cancer is their ability to inhibit androgen receptors, which in turn, inhibits the growth of cancerous prostate cells.
While Dr. Zion-Zaidman's research is still in the early stages, he is optimistic that his research will yield a functional anti-prostate cancer drug.
