Calling All Kid Inventors Ages 6 To 17!

What a great way to reward and inspire creativity!

Wham-O®, the company that brought us Hula Hoop®, Slip N Slide®, Frisbee®, SuperBall® and Hacky Sack® products, is having a big 60th year birthday bash and, to celebrate, Wham-O is inviting all kids between the ages of 6 and 17, U.S. residents only, to submit their unique toy inventions to the Kid Inventor Contest. The winner will receive $2000 and, possibly, three percent of sales!

Toy ideas submitted to the contest must be original to the entrant, not the parent or any other individual. The toys can be totally new concepts or improvements of existing toys and, of course, may not be patented, trademarked, or copyrighted by anyone, including the entrant. One very important condition of the contest is that the toy (or toy modification) may not have been disclosed prior to the application. In other words, you must not have submitted the invention to another company or contest.

The entry form asks for a description of what the invention looks like, how it works, and how it is used. Entrants may submit drawings, photographs, or actual prototypes. All submissions become the property of Wham-O.

A parent or guardian must sign the application and submission agreement, and it is very important that these legal documents be read carefully, perhaps even by an attorney, before signing. As with any contest, you should know the rights you are giving away as well as the opportunities you might later be denied by granting certain rights to Wham-O.

All documents and contest rules can be found on the Wham-O contest page.

Applications are due by March 31, 2008. The winner will be announced on June 30, 2008.

This sounds like fun. Do they have anything for adult kids?

I'll make sure to find you one!

I'll try to find one for you, Gloria. I'd like to participate in this too... I thought maybe by taking one of the digits out of my age....
