Have you ever taken a walk and all of a sudden gotten hit with a whiff of something that smelled great and as a result, made you hungry? I'm pretty sure you have. Some people believe that we as humans are born with a predetermined template of the type of smells we do or do not like but one company is determined to prove otherwise.
Recruit Co Ltd, a Japanese company, has taken advertising to the next level by setting up a 42 inch LCD display monitor in an underground mall in Tokyo that not only displays attractive, eye-catching images of delicious food, but also emits delicious scents to the noses of passerby's.
If both the images and smells don't entice you to buy, then perhaps the coupon book which is located on the machine just below the display will.
This particular gadget which was developed by NTT Communications Corp., is in an experimental stage and will wrap up this week on August 1, 2008. It will be interesting to see if the company determines whether or not it makes "sense" to implement these machines for real.
On that note, I'm not sure if this is truly a treat for the beak or just a scratch and sniff gone crazy..... what do you think?
